Job summary

Norup International School, located in the Berkley School District, is seeking a Head Custodian for a temporary period from May 20 to August 20. The role reports to the administrator and involves leading Custodial/Maintenance staff and coordinating summer cleaning projects.

The ideal candidate has a High School Diploma or GED (preferred), at least three years of custodial experience, and the physical ability to perform demanding manual labor. A strong emphasis on teamwork and safety is essential.

Qualifications

• High standards for attendance, punctuality, initiative and the ability to work without constant supervision.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Three years custodial experience
• Pass a physical exam showing ability to perform manual labor including lifting 50 pounds or more
• Able to communicate effectively and follow written and oral instructions
• Ability to maintain good public relations with clients
• Ability to operate custodial equipment and follow safety procedures per laws and regulations
• Ability to perform minor maintenance repairs
• Demonstrated teamwork and leadership abilities
• Preferred: experience in electrical, mechanical and plumbing repairs

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of building cleanliness, safety and presentability.
• Provide direction to Custodial/Maintenance staff.
• Lead and participate in summer project cleaning at Norup or other buildings.
• Prepare building for start of school year ensuring systems are operational and welcoming.
• Conduct inspections and preventative maintenance as required.
• Make routine repairs and report major issues in writing.
• Ensure safe operation of heating, ventilation and mechanical equipment.
• Check for fire hazards and correct them.
• Ensure all exits can be opened from inside during use.
• Perform painting and maintain painting records.
• Move and adjust furniture as needed.
• Replace broken glass and dispose of hazardous waste properly.
• Remove snow and ice from walkways and grounds.
• Maintain grounds and trim shrubs.
• Remove litter and supervise custodial staff for events.
• Lead scheduling for evening events and be available for security calls.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
