Job summary

Dubuque Community Schools is seeking a Plant Maintenance #1- Electrician to support the Buildings and Grounds Department. The role covers electrical maintenance across school facilities on a 261-day calendar, with a standard 8-hour day (6:30-3pm) and biweekly pay.

A City of Dubuque electrical journeyman license is required, along with three years of relevant experience. Responsibilities include reading blueprints, repairing electrical systems, and maintaining records.

Qualifications

• Requires City of Dubuque, State of Iowa, and Electrical Journeyman License/Registration.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in commercial or educational environments as an electrician.
• Ability to read blueprints, schematics and written reference material.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
• Ability to diagnose and resolve problems.
• Able to use hand and power tools.
• Experience with 120/208 volt single phase, 208-480 3 phase, low voltage, data systems; must be qualified to work per National Electric Safety Code.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day maintenance and repair of electrical systems and district infrastructure.
• Inspect, repair and maintain electrical motors, light fixtures, and school equipment.
• Use measuring and testing equipment as required for assigned work.
• Maintain records as required by management.
• Lift and move heavy objects; work from ladders and scaffolding.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance on electrical equipment and systems.
• Repair/replace switches, receptacles and circuit breakers; install/maintain lighting and automated systems.
• Design and construct electrical projects for facilities, including data and control systems.
