Job summary

Macon R-1 School District in Macon, Missouri seeks a Director of Maintenance to oversee the district's buildings and grounds, manage maintenance and custodial staff, and ensure safe, compliant operations.

You will develop preventive maintenance plans for HVAC, plumbing, electrical and structural systems, supervise budgets, coordinate capital projects, respond to emergencies, and support school activities with reliable facilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in building/facility maintenance with progressive supervisory responsibility
• Experience with public-sector or school-district operations preferred
• Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical and structural systems; familiarity with codes and safety regulations

Responsibilities

• Plan, direct, and supervise all building and grounds maintenance, custodial, and repair operations
• Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and structural systems
• Oversee and evaluate maintenance staff, including hiring, training, and performance management
• Prepare and manage department budgets; monitor expenditures for cost effectiveness
• Coordinate facility upgrades, construction projects, and vendor/contractor work
• Maintain accurate records of work orders, inspections, and compliance reports
• Ensure adherence to OSHA, EPA, fire safety, and other regulatory requirements
• Collaborate with administrators to prioritize maintenance needs and support school activities
• Assist in development of long-range facility improvement plans and capital projects
• Respond to emergency situations to protect property and safety
• Assists in snow removal
• Orders and receives supplies and equipment, and maintains inventories
• Assumes responsibility for building security and fire safety
• Performs emergency repair services as necessary
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee
