Job summary

Baldwin County Board of Education is seeking a Custodian to provide custodial and facilities operation services to maintain clean, safe, and welcoming school environments for students and staff.

The role involves cleaning floors, walls, windows, and fixtures; operating maintenance equipment; delivering supplies; and supporting grounds keeping and basic repairs as part of a team. Must be able to work varied shifts and lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to meet suitability criteria for employment and/or certification under Alabama Act.
• Demonstrated skills using standard tools, equipment, materials, methods, and practices of the maintenance trade.
• Ability to read and follow plans, directions, and layouts for maintenance projects.
• Ability to work after hours, weekends, shift work or holidays if necessary.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates support for the school system and its vision, goals and priorities.
• Provides services to ensure a safe, secure and healthy work and learning environment at the school.
• Performs custodial work that ensures an efficient and effective balance between operation and preventive custodial services for the schools.
• Scrubs, mops, waxes, and polishes floors according to established schedules and procedures.
• Demonstrates skill, safety, and knowledge when operating equipment and using materials to care for lawns, plants, floors, furniture, and fixtures.
• Follows established guidelines for dealing with emergency repair problems with efficiency.
• Maintains and reports inventory of materials and supplies as needed and reports need for additional supplies and equipment for purchase to supervisor(s).
• Cooperates with other school system staff members in maintaining high standards in the maintenance program.
• Follows written and verbal instructions and communicates effectively with others (custodial staff, vendors, school staff, students, parents, community members).
• Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned by principal and/or supervisor(s).
• Adheres to school system rules, administrative procedures, local Board policies, and state, federal, and local regulations.
