Job summary

BUTLER COUNTY SCHOOLS is seeking a dedicated Custodian to maintain cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of the school facilities and grounds. The role requires careful attention to cleaning routines, equipment handling and adherence to standards.

You will work under the supervision of the Principal, perform daily cleaning tasks, assist with setup for programs, and help maintain a secure, orderly environment for students and staff.

Qualifications

• Completion of the eighth grade or equivalent.
• Proficient with custodial equipment, yard tools and cleaning chemicals.
• Knowledge of OSHA standards related to the assignment.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work harmoniously with others and organize tasks.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize restrooms and dressing rooms daily.
• Clean windows, ledges, furniture and equipment daily.
• Sweep or vacuum and mop hard surfaces in rooms and corridors.
• Vacuum and spot clean carpeted areas daily.
• Empty and clean trash cans daily.
• Assist in maintaining custodial supplies inventory.
• Assist in supervision of physical security as required.
• Provide emergency clean up for spills and mishaps.
• Inspect lighting fixtures daily; replace bulbs as needed.
• Patrol facility and grounds to pick up litter daily.
• Assist in lifting and moving heavy objects and furniture as required.
• Assist in setting up facilities for programs, meetings, etc.
• Comply with all regulations and laws relating to job assignment.
• Assist with grounds maintenance as required.
• Communicate effectively with staff, students, administrators and other contacts.
• Follow attendance, punctuality and proper dress rules.
• Ensure adherence to good safety standards.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
• Model and maintain high ethical standards.
• Demonstrate initiative in assigned responsibilities.
• Maintain expertise in assigned area to fulfill project goals.
• Participate in training programs to increase skill and proficiency.
• Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
• Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
• Exhibit interpersonal skills as an effective team member.
• Demonstrate support for the school system and its goals.
• Demonstrate initiative in identifying potential problems or opportunities for improvement.
