Job summary

Richmond County School System is seeking a Custodian to perform general housekeeping and facilities maintenance in school buildings and administrative offices. Under supervision, the role involves cleaning, safety compliance, and assisting staff with moving furniture and supplies.

The position requires knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment operation, and safety practices; flexibility to overtime or night shifts as needed in a school environment.

Qualifications

• Education: Eight grade education; HS diploma or GED preferred.
• Certification or Licensure: None required.
• Knowledge of building/grounds care methods, materials, and practices.
• Ability to operate custodial/grounds equipment; PPE and safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Has a positive attitude toward job and customer service.
• Cleans and maintains surfaces (ceilings, chalkboards, counter tops, lockers).
• Comply with all regulatory mandates.
• Work independently, organize, and use time effectively.
• Assists staff by delivering to classrooms, moving furniture, and other manual tasks.
• Responsible for the overall condition of the building and grounds.
• Safely handle cleaning chemicals in compliance with regulations.
• Order and maintain building supplies and maintenance budget.
• Operates power mower and cleans grounds.
• Operates cleaning equipment and basic tools (ladders, etc.).
• Dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, buffs, and cleans floors and spaces.
• Cleans walls, fixtures, windows, restrooms; replaces bulbs.
• Open/close buildings per district protocols.
