Job summary

Vestavia Hills City Schools is seeking a Custodian to maintain building security, perform cleaning duties, and support daily operations across campus facilities. The role involves floor care, restroom upkeep, window cleaning, and light maintenance tasks as assigned by the principal.

The position requires reliability, ability to work with staff and students, and adherence to health and safety standards. Background clearance per Alabama rules is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in custodial work preferred.
• Meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain building security and policing grounds.
• Cleaning, sweeping, dry mopping floors.
• Cleaning and restocking of restrooms and restroom fixtures.
• Cleaning classrooms and offices, vacuuming carpeted areas, dusting furniture and office machines.
• Cleaning of windows and window sills and removal of debris from the building(s).
• Responsible for buffing/burnishing, stripping and refinishing of hard surface floors.
• Shampooing, spotting and extracting carpet.
• Light bulb replacement, HVAC filter service and other project work.
• Provide emergency cleanup for spills.
• Responsible for reporting needs for other repairs and maintenance.
• Moves or assists in the moving of heavy furniture, equipment, and objects from room to room, floor to floor, and into or out of buildings.
• Responsible for maintaining/ordering custodial equipment and supplies and scheduling project work.
• Performs and/or assists in event or special program set-ups and assists faculty and staff as time permits.
• Shift schedule as determined by the principal and the needs of the facility and performs other duties as assigned.
• Participate successfully in training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
• Participate in cross training activities as required.
• Assume other reasonable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
