Job summary

Dayton Public Schools is seeking an Assistant Custodian to perform routine cleaning of school facilities, monitor building conditions, and support preventive maintenance under supervision. Core duties include following cleaning schedules, moving furniture, cleaning restrooms, and ensuring security of the building.

Qualifications

• Must be a U.S. citizen or have the legal right to work in the U.S.
• Valid Driver's License or State Identification Card.
• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Knowledge of safety procedures—chemical handling, tornado/fire drills.
• Knowledge of standard cleaning equipment operation.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with others.
• Ability to effectively communicate and follow instructions.

Responsibilities

• The Assistant Custodian will perform routine cleaning of school facilities including floors, walls, doors, restrooms, walkways, entrances and furniture.
• Monitors the building for damage and participates in preventive maintenance measures as directed.
• Follows the cleaning schedule as outlined by the head custodian, Director of Operations, or Designee.
• Performs general cleaning tasks such as trash removal, dust mopping, vacuuming, mopping, high dusting, and window cleaning.
• Moves furniture, strips, scrubs, and waxes floors, and stocks restrooms and custodial inventory.
• Secures the building and maintains grounds as needed; reports safety and maintenance concerns to supervisors.
