Job description

Job Title: School Educator II (Science Teacher)

Cherry Hospital, a state-accredited psychiatric hospital serving eastern North Carolina, is seeking applicants for a School Educator II (Science Teacher) position at Riverbend School. This role supports students in grades 6-12 during inpatient care, ensuring instruction aligns with the NC Standard Course of Study and transitions to the Common Core Curriculum and Next Generation Assessments as required.

The selected candidate will be responsible for maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations for both regular and special education students, integrating instructional technology, and collaborating with various departments within Cherry Hospital, the NC Department of Health and Human Services, the Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities School District, the NC Department of Public Instruction, and multiple school districts across 37 counties.

This position involves working with exceptional children and plays a crucial role in delivering quality education within a specialized healthcare setting.

Additional Information:
  • Note: Per G.S.126-5(c1) (37), this position is Exempt from all provisions of NC General Statute Chapter 126 (State Human Resources Act) with the exception of Articles 6 and 7.
  • Mandatory Reporting: This position is designated Mandatory and requires reporting or staying over during adverse weather events.

Qualifications:
  • Basic knowledge of psychology, behavior management, and education principles.
  • Experience working with exceptional children.
  • Professionalism and positive communication skills.
  • North Carolina educator licensure (A, M, S, D) or eligibility.
  • Demonstrated teaching skills.
  • Current, valid A or G Certificate issued by NCDPI.
