Job summary

Craven County Schools Facilities Support Services in New Bern, North Carolina is seeking a Carpenter I to perform basic carpentry tasks under supervision. The position runs for 12 months and is full-time, with pay grade 57 and non-exempt status.

Reporting to the Director of Facility Support Services and the Carpenter Supervisor, the ideal candidate will have aptitude for carpentry and the ability to measure, cut, join, and install simple wooden structures. A valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• Education and experience in carpentry or related activities.
• Ability to follow written instructions.
• Ability to follow oral instructions with minimal repetition.
• Some aptitude for carpentry work demonstrated in prior work, school experience or personal activities.

Responsibilities

• Gathers materials to be used.
• Measures and marks materials for cutting.
• Cuts and drills wood and other materials using hand and power tools.
• Joins materials with nails, screws or glue.
• Checks accuracy of work with levels, rulers and measuring tapes.
• Fits and nails sheathing on outer walls and roofs in preparation for boards.
