Job summary

Floresville Independent School District is seeking a dedicated Custodian to join our facilities team in Floresville, Texas. Starting Date: Immediately. This full-time position supports safe and clean school environments across assigned campus.

The successful candidate will follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures, operate cleaning equipment, perform minor repairs, and assist with event setups. Eligibility requires the ability to lift heavy items and work in varied indoor/outdoor

Qualifications

• Knowledge of minor repairs and building/grounds maintenance
• Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy items
• Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Responsibilities

• Maintain a cleaning schedule for floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture and restrooms
• Keep school building and grounds neat and clean
• Comply with local laws for trash storage and disposal
• Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and request replacements as needed
• Make minor building repairs and report major repairs to the principal
• Move furniture or equipment within the building as directed by the principal
• Set up facilities for special events
• Open and close the building each school day
• Ensure exit doors and panic bolts are functioning during occupancy
• Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency
• Operate tools according to safety procedures
• Address unsafe conditions with supervisor immediately

Primary Purpose

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds.

Education/Certification:

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures

Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and grounds maintenance

Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment

Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Cleaning

• Maintain a cleaning schedule that will include cleaning of floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, and restrooms.
• Keep school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, and play areas, neat and clean.
• Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash.
• Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

Maintenance and Repair

• Make minor building repairs as needed and report major repair needs to principal.
• Move furniture or equipment within building as directed by principal.
• Assist in setting up facilities for special events.

Safety

• Assist with opening and closing building each school day.
• Follow established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
• Check daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and all panic bolts are working properly during hours of building occupancy.
• Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency.
• Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
• Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
• Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.

Buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, hand tools, shampooer.

Working Conditions

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Frequent walking, standing, climbing, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces, and ladders. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
