Position Overview

Custodians are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of all school facilities and grounds. Their mission is to ensure the school's physical environment is clean, safe, and well-maintained.

Responsibilities

1. Clean and sanitize all rooms (classrooms, restrooms, gyms, etc.) following established procedures.
2. Dust, wipe furniture, sweep, mop, vacuum floors, and empty trash.
3. Assist with setup and cleanup for meetings, classrooms, and events.
4. Maintain floors by stripping, cleaning, buffing, and applying sealers and finishes; shampoo carpets.
5. Operate and maintain cleaning equipment and tools.
6. Wash walls and equipment; use ladders up to 12 feet when necessary.
7. Secure buildings by locking/unlocking and checking for unauthorized access.
8. Follow chemical safety instructions and use supplies accordingly.
9. Shovel snow from walkways during winter.
10. Assist with moving furniture and equipment as needed.
11. Clean windows and blinds.
12. Enforce school policies, safety regulations, and attend safety meetings.
13. Participate in training sessions including First Aid, CPR, and cleaning techniques.
14. Supervise summer student workers.
15. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Custodial or maintenance experience.
3. Ability to work independently and be available for emergencies.
4. Good time management and punctuality.
5. Effective communication skills.
6. Willing to complete Protecting God’s Children course.
7. Must pass drug testing, background checks, and fingerprinting.

Physical Demands

This role requires standing, walking, handling objects, climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly, and occasionally up to 100 pounds. Visual and physical agility are necessary.
