Positions Available (6/12/26)

Three positions in the Walpole Attendance Area and Charlestown Schools. Shift: PM (Evenings 2:30 pm–11:00 pm) with a $25/hr shift differential. Start dates are ASAP for the Walpole and Charlestown Middle School positions, and August 20 for the Charlestown Primary School First Shift.

• Walpole Attendance Area – PM shift – Start date ASAP.
• Charlestown Middle School – PM shift – Start date ASAP.
• Charlestown Primary School – First Shift – Start date Aug 20.

Position Details

Position Title: Custodian
Classification: Non-Exempt/Support Staff Union
Terms of Employment: as per contract
Reports to: Facilities Director
Evaluation: Performance will be evaluated per the Agreement between the FMRSD and the Fall Mountain Regional Educational Support Personnel Association.
Job Goal: Maintain the school and grounds in a clean and operating condition for the most conducive educational atmosphere possible at all times.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Knowledge of cleaning and maintenance skills for buildings and grounds.
• Ability to read, interpret and follow written procedures, instruction manuals, and other job-related materials.
• Capability to operate buffing machines, scrubbers, vacuums, and other cleaning equipment.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation (required for positions serving multiple schools).
• Substitutions may be considered on a case basis by the Superintendent.

Performance Responsibilities

• Sweeping, mopping, scrubbing hard floors with a floor scrubber, and vacuuming as assigned.
• Maintain floor finish by stripping, waxing, burnishing and polishing as assigned.
• Clean and disinfect all sanitary fixtures and replenish supplies daily.
• Dust, polish surfaces daily; move furniture or equipment as required.
• Wash windows, clean light fixtures, banister, rail, stairway and other items that accrue dust and cobwebs.
• Perform routine snow removal/ice control chores not covered by contract snow removal, including entry ways and sidewalks.
• Assume responsibility for opening and closing the building, securing all doors and windows, and ensuring lights are turned off.
• Communicate with students, teachers and administrators in a pleasant and cooperative manner.
• Work as a team member with district maintenance staff to complete repairs within the assigned area.
• Strive to promote the safety, health and comfort of students and employees.
