Job summary

The City of Janesville is seeking a school crossing guard to help ensure the safety of children traveling to and from school. Under the general supervision of the Community Services Sergeant, you will direct crossing guards, interact with students, parents, and motorists, and uphold traffic safety rules in designated school zones.

Typical schedule is Monday–Friday during the school year (September–June), with morning shifts 7:50–8:20 and afternoon shifts 3:08–3:30.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Maturity and sense of responsibility towards children using school travel routes within the assigned locations.

Responsibilities

• Directs and controls children at designated crossings and groups.
• Informs motorists that children are using the crosswalk and has the right to proceed.
• Responds to and interacts with the public in a courteous, professional manner.
• Follows safety regulations and reports unsafe conditions to supervisor.
