Job summary

Village of Greendale is seeking a Crossing Guard to supervise the safe crossing of children to and from school at public roadways and intersections. Under the direction of the School Resource Officer, the guard will observe traffic gaps and lead children across, using a stop sign visible to traffic.

Responsibilities include assisting with school commute, erecting temporary signs, and working about one hour daily during the school year.

Qualifications

Must be a U.S. citizen and be 21 years or older.
Valid driver license with good driving record.
Able to work when school is in session.
Ability to react quickly and effectively in stressful situations.
Good verbal and written communication skills, clear and concise speech.
Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously.
Ability to perform essential functions of this position.

Responsibilities

Assists children to and from school in safely crossing roadways and intersections.
Watches for gaps in traffic and walks children across the roadway or intersection while holding a "stop" sign in such a manner as to be visible to approaching vehicles.
Erects temporary pedestrian crossing signs in cross walk.
Works approximately one hour a day, Monday through Friday, during the public school year (August through May). Specific hours to be worked will be set by the Chief of Police and may vary according to demand and workload.
