Job summary

South Middleton School District is seeking a part-time Crossing Guard to work with the Supervisor of Safety & Security for district-wide crossings. Typical hours are 7:00am–8:00am and 2:30pm–4:00pm, with potential evening/weekend shifts for district events.

The role focuses on safe crossing, clear directions, and student safety. Responsibilities include directing children at crossings, managing traffic flow near school zones, wearing a reflective vest, and maintaining punctuality.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience communicating with children
• Good interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy with children
• Ability to handle situations with crossing children
• Ability to deal with dissatisfied individuals
• Good attendance

Responsibilities

• Directs school children to cross the street at the crossing signal
• Controls vehicular traffic as necessary to assure safe crossing
• Controls traffic when necessary for safe travel of children
• Wears safety vest while directing traffic or crossing children
• Instructs all school children to walk at the crossing point
• Must be dependable and punctual
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or designee
