Job summary

Sumter High School is seeking an experienced school counselor to support students academically and personally. You will work with individuals, small groups, and the classroom to guide decisions on academics and personal/social development.

You will consult with parents and outside resources, help students evaluate interests and learning styles, and participate in placement meetings. The role reports to the Building Principal for a 233-day term.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in School Counseling and SC certification required.
• Ability to work with students individually, in groups, and in classrooms.
• Experience or capacity to consult with parents and outside resources.

Minimum of a master's degree and valid South Carolina educator certification in Secondary School Counseling.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Works with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom.
• Guides in the decision making processes concerning academics and personal/social development.
• Helps students evaluate their interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personal characteristics for educational planning.
• Consults with outside resources/agencies to maximize and coordinate the use of available services.
• Consults with parents regarding their children, family counseling on school related issues, and meetings for special purposes.
• Provides services and expertise to and for the students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community.
• Assists students in developing self-confidence and a positive self-concept.
• Assists students in strengthening interpersonal skills.
• Assists students in analyzing personal learning styles and improving individual study skills.
• Schedules, attends and presents at placement meetings.
• Confers with teachers and parents whenever necessary.
• Performs all other related duties as required.

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation
