Job summary

Sumter School District is seeking a School Counselor at Sumter Career and Technology Center/Sumter High School to support students’ academic, personal, and social development. This role involves individual and group work, collaboration with teachers and parents, and coordinating with community resources to enhance student success.

The counselor will guide educational planning, participate in placement meetings, and provide counseling services across the school, with annual performance

Qualifications

• Minimum of a master's degree and valid South Carolina educator certification in Secondary School Counseling.

Responsibilities

• Works with students individually, in small groups, and in the classroom.
• Guides in decision making concerning academics and personal/social development.
• Helps students evaluate interests, aptitudes, abilities, and personal characteristics for educational planning.
• Consults with outside resources/agencies to maximize and coordinate services.
• Consults with parents regarding their children and family counseling on school related issues.
• Provides services and expertise to students, teachers, administrators, parents, and community.
• Assists students in developing self-confidence and a positive self-concept.
• Assists students in strengthening interpersonal skills.
• Assists students in analyzing personal learning styles and improving study skills.
• Schedules, attends and presents at placement meetings.
• Confer with teachers and parents when necessary.
• Performs other related duties as required.
