Job summary

The Genovesi Environmental Study Center in New York City is seeking a Community Assistant to support programs that engage students, families, and the wider community. You will assist the Principal and center staff in planning activities, coordinating outreach, and building strong partnerships with outside organizations to promote school goals.

Responsibilities include supporting after-school programs and events, developing community calendars, and serving as a liaison to community groups.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Must be able to understand and be understood in English.
• Excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with families and parents on education or community issues.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

• Assist in school-based programs that promote student engagement, parent involvement and community outreach.
• Support enhancement of community programs to serve students.
• Assist in planning student activities including after-school activities and college visits.
• Provide assistance to the Principal and staff in outreach efforts to the community.
• Support after-school performances or community engagement activities.
• Participate in projects to increase engagement, opportunity and success for students, families and the school community.
• Help produce school program and community event calendars.
