Job summary

Alexander County Schools Child Nutrition is seeking a Substitute Child Nutrition Assistant to assist with meal preparation, serving, and kitchen support in a school cafeteria. The position requires the ability to read and follow recipes, perform basic math, and work in a dynamic, school-based environment.

Hours vary weekly and location; this role may include driving a daily bus route or substituting for a driver when requested by the principal.

Qualifications

• Reading and writing ability for recipes and instructions.
• Basic math skills for portions and food preparation.
• Ability to follow standardized recipes and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Participate in annual safety and sanitation training.
• Prepare, cook, and serve meals and a la carte items.
• Set up serving lines and replenish items during service.
• Check in deliveries, store supplies, and assist with inventory.
• Clean kitchen areas, equipment, and utensils to maintain sanitation.
• May perform housekeeping duties in kitchen and dining areas; empty trash.
