Job summary

Anchorage School District in Anchorage seeks an Elementary School Cafeteria Manager II to oversee daily cafeteria operations, ensuring meals meet schedules and safety guidelines. You will inspect deliveries, maintain sanitary conditions, and keep required records for NSLP compliance.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with 1 year food service experience, cashiering and MS Office proficiency, and ASD Serving It Safe training within 21 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 years related experience may substitute.
• 1 year food service experience in food preparation, handling, safety and sanitation.
• Proficiency in cashiering and Microsoft Office.
• Must have basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication).
• Must attend ASD Serving It Safe course and pass exam within 21 days of hire.
• Preferred: 1 year supervisory experience, including directing staff.
• Knowledge of pre-plate and centralized food preparation and delivery.
• Experience as food service manager.
• Experience with POS and inventory systems in a food service setting.

Responsibilities

• Manage all food and supply inventories, ordering, production records, cash handling, deposits and timely submission of paperwork to the Student Nutrition office.
• Ensure meals are prepared on schedule for an estimated number of students.
• Monitor and record kitchen equipment temperatures, HACCP compliance.
• Resolve complaints timely and communicate concerns to supervisor.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate school cafeteria staff.
• Coordinate employee timecards and leave requests with supervisor.
• Ensure timely preparation of all meal programs and assign work to kitchen staff.
• Maintain NSLP compliance and keep accurate records per USDA requirements.
• Submit maintenance requests and report major maintenance problems.
• Adhere to ASD policies and procedures; know USDA/state guidelines.
• Plan and decide in a fast-paced environment within deadlines.
• Assigns student aides and substitutes as needed.
• Establish positive relationships with students, staff and public.
