Job summary

Newton ISD is seeking a Food Service Worker to assist in the district’s school cafeteria. You will prepare and serve meals according to planned menus, maintain high quality, and follow sanitation and safety practices.

This nonexempt position reports to the Cafeteria Manager. Responsibilities include operating kitchen equipment, recording food requisitions and cashier functions, maintaining daily prep records, and promoting teamwork with staff.

Qualifications

• Ability to understand written and verbal food preparation and safety instructions.
• Working knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures.
• Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools.
• Ability to perform basic math.

Responsibilities

• Prepare quality food according to a planned menu of tested and uniform recipes.
• Serve food according to meal schedules, departmental policies, and procedures, and promote portion control.
• Store and handle food items and supplies safely and maintain a clean storage area.
• Operate kitchen equipment following safety standards.
• Maintain cleanliness of garbage containers and areas.
• Report unsafe conditions to supervisor and maintain personal hygiene.
• Record cashier functions accurately.
• Help record food requisitions and order necessary supplies.
• Maintain daily food preparation records.
• Promote teamwork and interaction with staff.
