Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking a Cashier Assistant for the Child Nutrition Services program. The role prepares, cooks and serves meals and a la carte items, while managing money and accurate meal counts using a POS system.

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma, be ServSafe certified or able to certify within 90 days, and bring strong customer service, math, and teamwork skills in a school cafeteria environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be ServSafe certified or able to become ServSafe certified within 90 days and maintain certification.
• Experience in food service and/or serving as a cashier preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares, cooks and serves meals, salads and a la carte items according to standardized recipes and keeps accurate documentation of food preparation.
• Serves as a cashier in the school cafeteria to collect money and records all food leaving the serving line using a computerized POS system.
• Follows procedures for exchange and collection of monies and assists in preparing deposits.
• Participates in on-the-job training to understand federally reimbursable meals and serving-line identification.
• Reads and follows standardized recipes for food preparation in a school cafeteria.
• Keeps kitchen area and utensils clean according to sanitation codes and schedules cleanliness.
• Performs housekeeping duties such as sweeping, mopping and cleaning tables and dining areas.
• Complies with Wake County Public School System Child Nutrition Handbook policies.
• Provides effective communication and customer service to students, parents and staff.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
