Job summary

Newport Independent Schools is seeking a School Bus Aide to assist the driver with discipline and safety on the bus. The role includes maintaining records, aiding loading/unloading and seating arrangements, and coordinating with school staff and parents to support student safety.

Responsibilities include helping students including pre-kindergarten in accordance with state guidelines, and staying current on Emergency Evacuation procedures. Training and in-service sessions are part of the position.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of safe practices concerning school bus transportation.
• Basic record-keeping techniques.
• Applicable sections of laws and regulations.
• Health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Assist bus driver in maintaining discipline on the school bus.
• Consult with the driver on documentation of student information and route surveys.
• Help ensure seat belts, harnesses and wheelchair clamps are secured as required.
• Assist parents and staff with safe loading and unloading of students, including seating for pre-kindergarten per guidelines.
• Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents about student background and behavior.
• Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
• Assist handicapped children on and off the bus and escort them safely home.
• Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
