Job summary

Colorado Springs School District 11 is seeking a part‑time Bus Assistant to support student transportation. The role involves monitoring boarding/departure, seating students, securing wheelchairs, and assisting with safety and emergency procedures on district buses.

Requirements include a High School Diploma or equivalent and First Aid/CPR. The position reports to the Operations Manager and works with bus drivers on a 173‑day year schedule.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/equivalent required.
• First Aid/CPR certificate required.
• Knowledge of transportation laws and procedures for student transport.

Responsibilities

• Monitor boarding and departure of students on the bus.
• Ensure students are safely seated and wheelchairs are secured when required.
• Perform daily pre-trip checks on wheelchair tie-down systems and seating devices.
• Report damaged or missing equipment to the driver.
• Assist driver with maintaining interior cleanliness of the bus.
• Monitor student behavior and enforce bus rules during transport.
• Explain and practice bus evacuation procedures with students.
• Assist students with entering and exiting the bus and finding seating.
