Job summary

Jefferson County Schools is seeking a Standby Bus Operator to support daily transportation operations for 200-school-year days. The role requires a valid CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements and a clean driving record.

Operators will maintain safe, reliable bus service, perform pre/post trip inspections, assist students, and follow WV State policies. Training and background checks are required, with pay grade commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

• Must have CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Clean driving record with no accidents or violations.
• Must pass WV School Bus Safety Program and tests.
• Must be able to climb in and out of bus to check engine compartment.
• Must maintain CPR and First Aid certification.

Responsibilities

• Operate a bus safely and efficiently to transport passengers to various destinations.
• Adhere to all traffic laws and regulations while driving.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections.
• Learn route, including pick up and drop off locations.
• Assist and supervise students with disabilities.
• Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the bus.
• Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
• Report any accidents, incidents, or mechanical problems to the appropriate authorities.
• Complete proper paperwork.
