Job summary

Kanawha County Public Schools seeks a Bus Operator to transport students safely to and from school. The role requires a valid CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements, a clean driving record, and a WV School Bus Safety Program certification. A minimum of 3 years driving experience and a minimum age of 21 are required.

The position covers up to 200 days annually and may involve flex hours. The operator reports to the Bus Terminal Supervisor and adheres to KCS safety policies and performance

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Must have valid CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsements and a good driving record.
• Must have WV School Bus Safety Program training and pass tests.
• Must be at least 21 years old and have 3 years driving experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs pre/post trip inspections.
• Learns route, including pick up and drop off locations.
• Safely uses fire extinguisher.
• Assists and supervises students with disabilities.
• Communicates with students, parents, school officials and supervisors.
• Transports students safely to and from the school daily.
• Prepares a monthly report summarizing mileage, maintenance, trips, fuel and passengers transported.
