Job summary

Jefferson County Schools is seeking a Bus Operator to transport students on routes serving multiple schools in Jefferson County, WV. This full-time position requires a valid WV CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements and a clean driving record.

The role includes pre/post trip inspections, safety compliance, and strong customer service. Expect 200 days of service with benefits defined by the county's salary scale and WV code. Training and state tests are provided.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• At least 3 years of driving experience as a licensed operator.
• Clean driving record with no accidents or violations.
• Must obtain and maintain WV CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Must complete WV School Bus Safety Program and pass requisite tests.
• Must be able to climb in and out of bus to check engine compartment.
• Must maintain valid CPR and First Aid certification.
• Must pass a physical examination and drug/alcohol screen.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds (100 pounds on certain buses).
• Must meet WV State Board Policy 4336 requirements.

Responsibilities

• Operate a bus safely and efficiently to transport passengers.
• Adhere to traffic laws and regulations while driving.
• Perform pre- and post-trip inspections.
• Learn route and pick-up/drop-off locations.
• Safely use fire extinguisher and manage emergencies.
• Assist and supervise students with disabilities.
• Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the bus.
• Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
• Communicate with passengers, dispatch and drivers as needed.
• Report accidents, incidents or mechanical problems promptly.
