Job Description

We are seeking candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, a desire to work with energetic students, and the ability to relate well within the school community. The School Bus Mechanic will ensure all district vehicles operate safely. SDST is committed to diversity and encourages all candidates to apply.

The responsibilities include but are not limited to:

1. Diagnose, repair, and maintain school buses, trucks, mowers, vans, and other equipment.
2. Maintain inventory and supplies.
3. Provide emergency road service.
4. Suggest improvements for efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
5. Assist drivers with vehicle maintenance tasks.
6. Maintain a clean and organized work area.
7. Assist with snow and ice removal as needed.
8. Transport students when necessary.

Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Experience in vehicle maintenance and repair.
• Experience with school buses and diesel engines preferred.
• Experience with body work is a plus.
• Current Class B CDL with Passenger Endorsement, no Air Brake Restriction, and a clean driving record.
• School Bus Endorsement preferred.
• Flexibility.

Job Requirements

Citizenship, residency, or valid work visa required.

Terms of Employment

Full-time, 8 hours/day, 12 months, following the school calendar. Part of the Support Staff Bargaining Unit. Pay rate: $30.80/hour until June 30, 2025; increases to $33.36/hour starting July 1, 2025.
