Job summary

Durango School District 9-R is hiring an Oil and Lube Technician in the Transportation Department. This full-time position includes comprehensive benefits and a $1,800 one-time bonus for staff hired by October 1, 2026 (pro-rated for late start). Housing options are available for the 2026/2027 year.

The role supports bus and equipment maintenance, lubrication, tire changes, and minor repairs, with opportunities to work with diagnostic tools and service trucks in a school environment.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of automotive equipment.
• Ability to perform minor preventive maintenance on gas and diesel engines either alone or under direct supervision.
• Ability to help troubleshoot equipment problems.
• Ability to operate various tools and equipment as required.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Knowledge of maintenance and repair procedures.
• Knowledge of safety requirements.
• Ability to make minor repairs as required.
• Ability to drive service truck.

Responsibilities

• Fuels and performs service island tasks; verifies operational safety of equipment and devices.
• Lubricates buses and other automotive equipment; performs oil and filter changes and related services.
• Changes and repairs tires; performs battery service and brake adjustments.
• Inspects cooling systems and replaces hoses or parts as needed.
• Makes minor repairs by replacing lights, plugs, ignition parts, latches, and switches.
• Operates lubrication equipment, hoist, air compressor, diagnostic tools, and related gear.
• Drives service truck for parts pickup and roadside service as required.
• Assists in cleaning and organization of the shop and parts room.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
