Job summary

Durham School Services is seeking a Fleet Tech II to diagnose and repair a school bus fleet, ensuring safe, reliable transportation for students. You will work under the Lead Technician to perform preventive maintenance across brakes, electrical, HVAC, drivetrains, and DVIR readiness.

Minimum three years’ mechanic repair experience with diesel systems is required; CDL preferred with company training to obtain CDL. ASE certification is desirable but not required.

Qualifications

• Minimum three years of light/medium/heavy-duty mechanic repair experience.
• Proficient with diagnostic equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and A/C issues.
• Diesel equipment experience required; gasoline systems familiarity a plus.
• Prior fleet or dealership experience; familiar with diesel and gasoline systems.
• Valid CDL preferred and required training to obtain CDL.
• ASE certification desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair automotive and diesel systems including brakes, steering, suspension, drivetrains, electrical, cooling, and fuel systems.
• Perform engine adjustments, rebuilds, and test drives to verify quality repairs.
• Complete safety inspections and repair sign-offs before releasing vehicles.
• Log labor hours and parts used in maintenance system; report unsafe conditions.
• Respond to road calls and perform mobile repairs when needed.
