Job summary

SOUTHWEST BUS SERVICES is seeking a School Bus Driver to safely transport students to and from school on scheduled routes and extracurricular trips. You will prioritize passenger safety and perform pre/post-trip vehicle inspections while maintaining a positive, welcoming environment for students.

Required CDL with passenger and school bus endorsement, a commendable driving record, and the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.

Qualifications

• Pre-employment drug test and DOT physical required.
• Ability to effectively communicate with students, employees, and managers.
• CDL license with passenger and school bus endorsement required and a commendable driving record.
• Experience working with children preferred; attendance and punctuality expected.

Responsibilities

• Observe traffic and weather conditions to ensure passenger safety.
• Safely transports students following the planned route and schedule.
• Address misconduct promptly to ensure student safety and professionalism.
• Report delays, accidents, emergencies, and maintenance needs.
• Regularly check vehicle safety before and after each trip (tires, brakes, signals, etc.).
• Enforce conduct and safety rules; respond to emergencies.
• Assist with loading and unloading when required; maintain a clean vehicle.
• Perform other duties as necessary.

Job description

• Base Pay $20.80 / Hour

This position provides safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school following a scheduled route and/or driving extracurricular trips while ensuring passenger safety. Drivers must exercise skill and judgment in a safe, reliable and courteous manner while operating a school bus.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Observes traffic and weather conditions to ensure passenger safety.
• Safely transports students following the planned route and schedule for departure time and stops.
• Addresses student misconduct immediately to ensure the safety of all students while maintaining professionalism.
• Reports delays, accidents, emergencies, and maintenance needs.
• Regularly checks vehicle safety, such as tires, brakes, turn signals, mechanical equipment, etc. before and after each trip.
• Enforces conduct and safety rules while on the bus.
• Responds to emergency and non-emergency situations.
• Assists with loading and unloading of the bus when required.
• Maintain a clean vehicle.
• Performs other duties as necessary.

Requirements

A successful school bus driver should enjoy working with children and strictly observe passenger transport regulations. In addition, the school bus driver’s highest priorities should be passenger safety and vehicle inspections.
