Job summary

Roosevelt School District is seeking a Bus Driver Trainee to join a structured training program designed to develop the knowledge, skills, and licenses needed to safely transport students. Training will cover classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel practice, licensing, and district procedures under qualified Transportation Department personnel.

The trainee will participate in required instruction, inspections, and safety drills, progressing toward independent operation of a school bus.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Ability and willingness to complete the School Bus Driver training program and obtain licenses/certifications within the timeframe.
• Must maintain a driving record that meets district, insurance, and state requirements.
• Ability to learn and comply with school bus safety procedures, traffic laws, and district policies.
• Ability to learn and demonstrate effective student management and behavior techniques.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and accept supervisory direction.
• Ability to exercise sound judgment and respond to routine situations and emergencies.
• Ability to pass the required school bus driver physical performance test.
• Ability to work independently during the training period.
• Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, punctuality, and regular attendance.

Responsibilities

• Learn and comply with traffic laws, ADOT requirements, safety regulations, and district policies under supervision.
• Complete classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and required licensing or endorsements.
• Participate in supervised behind-the-wheel and route training; transport duties only when authorized credentials are obtained.
• Learn and perform required pre-trip and post-trip inspections; report defects and document maintenance.
• Maintain cleanliness and general condition of district vehicles.
• Perform post-trip inspections to ensure no items remain on bus and report safety concerns.
• Develop student management and supervision techniques to maintain safe environments.
• Provide instruction on school bus safety procedures and emergency evacuation requirements.
• Learn and follow procedures for reporting accidents and incidents within required timeframes.
• Attend all required trainings, safety meetings, and activities.
• Maintain accurate training records and licensing documents.
• Assist with transportation operations including routes, field trips, and events as permitted.
• Perform other transportation-related duties as assigned.
