Job summary

Dean Transportation seeks a School Bus Driver to safely transport and assist students and other passengers to and from school, events, and programs in Kalamazoo, MI, with route assignment opportunities.

Earn up to $22.00 per hour, flexible scheduling, paid training toward a CDL (no prior CDL required), and benefits including a 401(k) after one year. You’ll contribute to a positive, safe experience for students and the community each day.

Qualifications

• Meet general employment qualifications.
• Meet company and state driving record check standards.
• Meet company, state, and school district standards for criminal history check.
• Meet Federal DOT guidelines and physical examination requirements.
• Pass drug and alcohol screening as established by company.
• Successful completion of Dean Transportation School Bus Driver Training Program (classroom, behind the wheel, tests).
• Meet Michigan School Bus Driver Certification Requirements (minimum hours, knowledge exam).
• Meet local, county, and state standards for driving skills test.
• Meet state requirements for appropriate commercial vehicle licensing.

Responsibilities

• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of your assigned vehicle as required.
• Use established routes and designated bus stops.
• Conduct emergency evacuation drills as required.
• Instruct passenger riders regarding safety.
• Drive defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather.
• Drive with safety of passengers as first priority.
• Establish favorable working relationships with drivers, office staff, maintenance, passengers, parents, teachers, principals, and program staff.
• Attend training sessions and in-service to improve performance.
