Job summary

Robert's Hawaii, Inc. is seeking a driver responsible for the safe transport of students from pickup sites to their destinations. You will perform pre‑ and post‑trip checks, follow state and company policies, and report any vehicle issues.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum age to drive – 21 years old
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals
  • Able to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Able to speak effectively and communicate on several levels (adults, children, management)
  • Able to pass a DOT physical
  • Valid Hawaii Driver’s License and clean record
  • Ability to upgrade to CDL
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • Pass DOT Defensive Driving Course
  • Meet requirements of FMCSA/DOT/DOE as applicable
  • Learn and pass Title 19 test
  • Able to work flexible shifts – 24/7 availability for Midday and Late runs
  • Ability to work under deadlines and/or pressure

Responsibilities

  • Sign‑in for morning and afternoon bus runs
  • Perform daily pre‑trip and post‑trip vehicle checks
  • Carry out state and company policy checklists
  • Check fluid/gas levels and replenish as needed
  • Report vehicle problems or deficiencies
  • Ensure safety features are working in each vehicle
  • Assist SPED only with vehicle upkeep: washing, detailing
  • Provide exceptional customer service to schools and students
  • Attend required trainings in full uniform
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Starting at $34/Hr + $1,000.00 SIGN ON BONUS!

This position is responsible for the safe transportation of students from various pickup sites to final destination in a timely manner. This position ensures the reliability of vehicles used in the transportation of students.

Essential Job Functions
Incumbent May Perform Any Or All Of The Following
  • Sign‑in for morning and afternoon runs
  • Do a daily pre‑check of vehicle before starting run and post check on completion of run
  • Do a step by step check as stipulated by State and company policy
  • Check fluid / gas levels and if needed fill
  • Report any problems or deficiencies of vehicles
  • Know safety features of each vehicle and ensure that they are in working order
  • Upkeep of vehicle is responsibility of driver (aide will assist SPED ONLY) – washing, detailing
  • Follow rules / regulations that govern personal appearance, conduct, use of vehicles, etc.
  • Know rules that apply to pick up and release of students
  • Learn and complete all forms that are required for reporting occurrences on / off vehicles, observation of child (markings, bruises, etc.), problems that transpire on bus
  • Provide exceptional customer service to schools, students, community
  • Attend all training session required for position in full uniform
  • Assume additional related responsibilities as assigned
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested
Working Conditions / Job Environment
  • Must be able to stand, walk and sit for sustained periods of time
  • Medium work - exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects
  • Stooping, kneeling, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling and lifting for extended periods of time
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately
  • Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating and repairing machines/equipment
  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside
  • The worker is subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity of moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to heat
  • Subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dust, mists and gases
  • Some remote work may be necessary
Supervision

Does this position supervise other employees? No. If no, does this position make work assignments and/or check the work of others but without the supervisory responsibilities? No.

  • Must meet/adhere to all requirements of FMCSA, DOT, FTA and DOE as applicable
  • Learn and pass test on Title 19
  • Able to work flexible shifts – 24/7 availability for Midday and Late runs
  • Position requires working under deadlines and/or pressure
  • Requires expertise in dealing with people and situations involving complex issues
  • Requires compliance with company Substance Abuse Policy and DOT Controlled Substances and Alcohol Use and Testing regulation
