Job summary

Schoolcraft Community Schools in Schoolcraft, MI is hiring a part-time bus driver to safely transport students on designated routes. You will operate a school bus, supervise students, and maintain a clean, hazard-free environment.

Training will be provided for CDL, CPR/AED and other required credentials. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent, pass background checks, and meet DOT medical requirements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; CPR/AED and first aid training provided if needed.
  • Commercial Driver’s License appropriate for pupil transportation required.
  • Criminal background check and drug/alcohol testing are mandatory.
  • Valid driving record and ability to meet DOT physical requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Meet Michigan Dept. of Education rules and district policies.
  • Drive a school bus on a designated route and schedule with student safety as priority.
  • Supervise students, ensure safe, orderly bus environment; report issues to principal.
  • Maintain bus cleanliness, refuel as directed and secure wheelchairs when needed.
  • Complete daily pre-trip inspections and report required repairs; follow cell policy.

Bus Driver (part time/sub)

Job Summary: The Bus Driver is responsible for the safe transporting of Schoolcraft Community Schools students.

Other duties involve managing the operation of the bus to ensure a safe and hazard free environment for all students.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • 1. Required: High school diploma or equivalent, CPR/AED, first aid training and other training as required (will be provided if needed).
  • 2. Commercial Driver’s License appropriate for pupil transportation is necessary (will provide training if needed).
  • 3. Must pass a criminal record check and drug and alcohol testing.
  • 4. Excellent driving record.
  • 5. Ability to meet Department of Transportation physical examination requirements.
  • 6. Must have prior work experience with children.
  • 7. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • 8. Must have regular and reliable job attendance, performance and the ability to do the job.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • 1. To meet the requirements and follow the rules and regulations as established by the Michigan Department of Education and Schoolcraft Community Schools.
  • 2. To obey all laws governing the operation of a vehicle and/or a school bus.
  • 3. Drive a school bus according to a designated route and schedule. Participate in determining route and time changes when necessary.
  • 4. Operate a bus in various traffic, weather and road conditions with the safety of students as the priority.
  • 5. Supervise students while driving, maintain a safe and orderly atmosphere on the bus.
  • 6. Communicate with the building principal regarding student behavior or medical and safety issues.
  • 7. Maintain the bus in a clean and orderly condition, sweep and empty trash.
  • 8. Refuel the bus when necessary, as determined by the Schoolcraft Community Schools Administration.
  • 9. Responsible for the bus, its’ equipment, its’ passengers and any aides assigned to his/her bus.
  • 10. Must complete daily pre-trip inspection of the vehicle and must immediately report needed repairs.
  • 11. Must follow the cell phone policy.
  • 12. Certified in CPR/AED, first aid training and other training as required (will be provided if needed).
  • 13. To be at assigned work site at stated starting times, ready to perform assigned duties.
  • 14. To appropriately secure wheelchairs with safety equipment.
  • 15. To keep all student, parent and staff information confidential.
  • 16. To have a positive attitude in working with students, parents, community members and other staff members.
  • 17. To prepare and maintain route sheet
  • 18. To prepare reports and keep all required records.
  • 19. To prepare "Accident Report" after any accident involving the bus and/or school bus passengers.
  • 20. Perform other duties as assigned by Administration.
