Job summary

Drivergent, Inc. in Sterling Heights, MI is seeking a Full Time School Bus Driver. Responsibilities include transporting students safely, performing pre/post-trip inspections, and maintaining on-time routes.

Requirements include a CDL (Class A or B) with endorsements, High School Diploma or GED, and 1+ years (3+ preferred) of bus driving experience. Weekend availability may be required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist passengers in evacuations when necessary.
• Keep vehicle interior clean and presentable.
• Present a neat, professional appearance at all times.
• Maintain a professional attitude with parents, students, staff, and passengers.
• Safely operate wheelchair lifts, radios, and emergency equipment.
• Complete all required paperwork including route change sheets.

Qualifications

• Responsible for the safe and reliable transportation of students; including all duties connected to operating a school bus, support vehicles, or other per all applicable client district policies & state/federal laws
• Ability to manage and maintain all students on the bus in a calm and safe manner
• Conduct all pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required
• Report to duty on time and maintain route on time and in a safe manner
• Physically assist passengers in evacuation of the vehicle in case of emergency
• Inform all appropriate personnel of problems/procedures/incidents
• Complete all required paperwork (including route change sheets, timecards, vehicle repair requests)
• Keep the interior of the assigned vehicle clean and presentable
• Present a neat and professional personal appearance at all times
• Maintain a professional attitude with parents, students, other staff members, fellow employees, supervisors, customers, and passengers
• Safely and efficiently utilizes vehicle equipment, including wheelchair lifts, radios and emergency equipment

Position Requirements

• Ability to take and pass Continuing Education Class
• Able to understand and have empathy for children and persons with disability
• Extensive knowledge of traffic rules and regulations
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to operate and navigate a full-size or special-need school bus
• Ability to effectively operate a GPS
• Ability to work outside in various climates and weather conditions
• Must be reliable, and capable of working a flexible schedule
• Must practice defensive driving at all times to avoid vehicular and industrial accidents
• Proficient in English sufficient enough to read road signs and communicate with personnel
• Weekends as needed

Minimum Requirements

• Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
• Passenger, School Bus, and Air Brake Endorsements
• Michigan State Education Card
• Age: Minimum 21 years of age
• Education: High School Diploma or GED Required
• Work Experience: 1+ Years; 3+ years preferred

Compensation and Benefits

• $23to $28.00 per hour, depending on experience
