Responsibilities

• Enforce seat belts and safety rules for all students.
• Assist students with boarding and disembarking, including those with special needs.
• Report incidents, accidents, or mechanical issues promptly.
• Attend required training sessions and meetings.
• Maintain records of routes, counts, and incidents.

We are seeking a dedicated and responsible individual to join the Durand Area School District as a full-time School Bus Driver. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and timely transportation of students to and from school, extracurricular activities, and special events. This position requires a commitment to maintaining a safe and positive environment for students while adhering to all traffic laws and district policies.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a school bus to transport students to and from designated locations.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during transit.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the bus to ensure it is in proper working condition.
• Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school staff regarding transportation schedules and any changes.
• Enforce safety rules and regulations, ensuring that all students are seated and wearing seatbelts when applicable.
• Assist students with boarding and disembarking from the bus, especially those with special needs.
• Report any incidents, accidents, or mechanical issues to the appropriate authorities promptly.
• Attend required training sessions and meetings as scheduled by the school district.
• Maintain accurate records of daily routes, student counts, and any incidents that occur during transportation.

Requirements

• Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a passenger endorsement.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience driving a bus or working with children preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and composed in stressful situations.
• Knowledge of traffic laws and safety regulations related to school bus operation.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
• First Aid and CPR certification is a plus.
• Flexibility to work early morning and late afternoon hours, as well as occasional evenings or weekends for special events.
