Job summary

First Student in Champlin, MN is hiring a Diesel Technician to maintain and repair school buses for local districts, ensuring safety and on-time transportation. You will diagnose issues, perform brake inspections, tune-ups, and preventive maintenance to keep our fleet reliable.

The role offers a Monday–Friday day shift with pay per the union contract at $30.44/hour, plus bonuses for ASE tests and company-paid CDL Class B training, along with excellent benefits and retirement plans.

Qualifications

At least 1 year of diesel or automotive maintenance/repair experience or equivalent technical school education.
Vehicle diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license required.
CDL Class B or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment – company-paid training.
Possession of a mechanic's tool set to complete duties.
Willingness to participate in ASE certification program (training, testing, bonuses provided).
Strong computer skills.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair school buses to ensure safety and reliability.
Diagnose and perform all phases of vehicle maintenance including brakes, engine tune-ups, suspensions, drive trains, and transmissions.
Perform preventive maintenance (PMs), safety inspections, and annual inspections.
Complete work orders accurately.
Assist with mobile emergency repair services when needed.
