Job summary

Summit School Services is seeking a Bus Assistant to support the bus driver in safely transporting students. Responsibilities include helping students board and exit, seating with belts or restraints, and monitoring behavior across routes with a strong emphasis on safety.

Requirements include being at least 18, passing training and safety meetings, and the ability to lift and assist students. The role offers benefits and a competitive hourly rate.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old (19 for New York by state law).
  • Must meet physical and medical requirements.
  • Must complete and attend all training and safety meetings.
  • Must have high attention to detail and dexterity to use restraints and secure wheelchairs.
  • Ability to relate to and work well with children.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students with entering or exiting the bus safely.
  • Maintain safety and student conduct as per policies.
  • Seat students with appropriate belts and restraints.
  • Monitor passengers and ensure safety regulations.
  • Provide a positive role model and professional conduct.
  • Document and report violations to the appropriate authority.
  • Assist in evacuations in case of emergency.
  • Keep the interior clean and presentable.
  • Complete required paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Attend training and safety meetings as scheduled.
