Job summary

BESSEMER CITY SCHOOLS is seeking a Bus Aide to support safe student transportation and assist in loading, unloading, and conduct on the bus. The role reports to the Bus Driver, Transportation Supervisor and Special Education Director and aims to maximize students' access to curriculum and activities.

Responsibilities include aiding students, recording violations, collecting lost items, and ensuring orderly operations. The position emphasizes safety and dependable teamwork.

Qualifications

• Must be physically and mentally capable of dealing with young, handicapped children.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Assists the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
• Assists young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
• Assures that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
• Provides written records of violations of the student code to the transportation supervisor.
• Collects and turns over to the school secretary those personal items left on bus by students.
• Checks bus after each load to be certain that no students remain on the bus.
• Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
