Job summary

Alabaster City Schools is seeking a Substitute Bus Aide to support the transportation team in ensuring safe student transport to and from school. The role requires assisting the bus driver, helping students with seating, crossing streets, and loading/unloading procedures.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or GED, a valid Alabama driver's license, and the ability to lift and restrain students of various ages.

Qualifications

• Valid Alabama driver’s license
• Must be physically and emotionally able to assist students of varying ages
• Pre-service and in-service bus driver training participation required
• Board-approved alternatives may apply

Responsibilities

• Ensure student safety: buckle in seat belts, secure wheelchairs, keep students seated and under control
• Assist with crossing streets and loading/unloading procedures
• Maintain a log of students assigned to the bus and assist the driver
• Familiarize self with safety equipment, emergency procedures, bus routes, and pickup points
• Notify school officials of unusual events or behaviors and cooperate with staff on handling needs
• Follow school policies and preserve confidentiality of students and staff information
• Be punctual, sign in daily, and seek substitutes when absent
• Promote good public relations and perform other transportation duties as assigned
