Job summary

East Central Ohio Educational Service Center – Student Wellness seeks a Prevention Specialist to work in Belmont County schools. The role focuses on mental health promotion and substance abuse prevention, with responsibilities ranging from program development to youth outreach.

The position is full-time during the school year (mid-August to early June) and requires a Bachelor's degree in a human services field, prevention certification or active pursuit thereof, and background checks.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, community health, sociology, psychology or related human services field.
• Must be certified as a Prevention Specialist or willing to begin certification following Ohio guidelines.
• Must undergo FBI and BCI background check; criminal background must be clean.
• Must be drug-free and adhere to the Program’s Drug-free Workplace policy.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, develop and implement mental health promotion and substance abuse prevention programs for youth.
• Provide early intervention/student support services to students and their families designed to meet non-academic barriers to success in school.
• Refer student and family to school-based and/or community resources as needed.
• Participate in community-based process activities (agency liaison, serve on committees, task forces, coalitions).
• Attend required workshops and trainings to improve professional skills and obtain state prevention certification.
• Provide teacher In-Service/professional development programs as needed.
