The Learning Lamp in Somerset, PA is seeking a Student Support Specialist to assist students with activities of daily living and provide physical and emotional support within the school setting.

The role emphasizes collaboration with teachers and nurses, adherence to individualized care plans, and promoting independence among students while maintaining a caring, inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma is the minimum education requirement.
• Willingness to complete required clearances and training to ensure safety of our children.
• Capacity for sitting, standing, walking, bending and stopping for long periods.
• Previous experience with individuals with special needs or disabilities is preferred.
• Patience, empathy and genuine interest in supporting students with diverse needs.
• Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with a team.
• Understanding of confidentiality and privacy requirements related to student information.

Responsibilities

• Assist Students with Activities of Daily Living: help with hygiene, mobility and dressing.
• Provide Physical and Emotional Support: assist with movement and offer encouragement.
• Implement Individualized Care Plans: follow plans with teachers and nurses.
• Support in the Classroom: assist with materials and adaptive equipment as needed.
• Communication: maintain open communication with teachers, parents, and staff; attend meetings.
• Encourage independence and foster a positive, inclusive learning environment.
