Qualifications

  • Principles, theories, methods, techniques, and strategies for diagnosing and remediating speech and language disabilities
  • Knowledge of developmental, social, and behavioral characteristics of elementary age pupils
  • Knowledge of remediation goals, objectives, trends and research in speech and language
  • Knowledge of behavior management and shaping strategies, techniques and methods
  • Awareness of socio-economic, cultural and language differences among students

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic assessments of pupil speech and language development using standardized tests and inventories
  • Confer with parents regarding speech and language status and management
  • Confer with instructional staff in assessment and remediation of speech and language disabilities
  • Provide individualized speech and language programs for students with disabilities
  • Maintain clinical records and progress reports based on IEP goals
  • Write Individualized Education Plans for eligible students
  • Evaluate students with speech and language difficulties and report progress to staff and parents
