Job summary

Little Rock School District is seeking a School Based Security Officer to protect multiple campus locations in Little Rock, Arkansas. You will patrol buildings and grounds to maintain a safe environment for students and staff.

The position is a 9-month contract with benefits. Candidates must pass a fitness/agility test and a written test, hold a high school diploma, and obtain Arkansas Private Security Officer certification. Salary ranges from $18,510 to $32,160 per year.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.
• No misdemeanor or felony arrests in last 10 years.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record in last 5 years.
• Willing to pass drug test and submit to tests.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Able to meet physical requirements and pass written/physical tests.
• Certification as Private Security Officer in Arkansas is required.

Responsibilities

• Patrols school buildings, grounds, and hallways for safety.
• Enforces district rules to maintain order and safety.
• Directs students and non-district personnel as needed.
• Assist in stopping fights and resolving conflicts.
• Support investigations with principal as needed.
• Maintain written records of critical events.

JOB GOAL:

To maintain a safe and secure environment for students and employees by patrolling and monitoring premises and personnel.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This position is a 9 Month (182 days) contract plus benefits package. FLSA: Non-Exempt

NOTE: Precise placement on the salary range will be determined by experience.

IF SELECTED TO MOVE FORWARD THE APPLICANT WILL BE REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN A PHYSICAL FITNESS AGGILITY TEST and WRITTEN TEST TO BE CONDUCTED AT A SPECIFIED TIME.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be 21 years of age.
• No misdemeanor arrests or convictions in last ten (10) years.
• No felony arrests or convictions.
• Must have a validdriver’s license – no conviction for careless or reckless driving, or DWI in last five (5) years.
• Must be willing to submit to and pass a drug test.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job and possess the ability to work in all environmental conditions to perform common security functions and duties.
• Must be able to pass a written and physical test.
• Must be able to obtain certification as a Private Security Officer through the State of Arkansas.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following statements of duties and responsibilities are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. • Patrols school buildings, grounds, and hallways for illegal or questionable activity.
• Enforces District rules/practices relating to the order and safety of buildings, grounds, and students.
• Makes contact with and directs all non Little Rock School District personnel and students.
• Must be available to assist in stopping fights, resolving conflicts, and similar problem situations.
• Aids principal, as needed, in the investigation of fights, assaults, class disturbances, and supervision of activities.
• Keeps written record of critical events.
• Maintains positive working relationships with students, staff, and general public.
• Provides security for after-hours events as assigned.
• Uses physical force only as necessary to restrain a student who poses a threat to himself and/or others.
• Maintains work hours as assigned by the building principal.
• Maintains regular attendance.
• Maintains appropriate grooming and physical appearance.
• Maintains good physical health.
• Uses security equipment appropriately.
• Communicates effectively with students, staff, and the public.
• Attends conferences and schedules in-service as directed.
• Other duties as assigned by principal/security department

Mental Functions, Physical Requirements, and Working Conditions:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally the employee must lift and/or move up to twenty (20) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perceiving of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information. Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period, and to be physically present and at assigned work, with only infrequent unexcused absences, during the contract year. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by immediate supervisor and approved by the Human Resources Director.
