Job summary

Livonia Public Schools in Livonia, MI is seeking a Physical Therapist (.6 FTE) to evaluate and treat students with physical impairments, consult with teachers and families, and adapt learning activities under medical direction.

The candidate will work within a multi-disciplinary team to develop and monitor mobility-focused therapy plans, participate in IEP meetings, and ensure documentation meets district and state requirements.

Qualifications

• Current licensure as a Physical Therapist in Michigan.
• Graduation from an accredited Physical Therapy program.
• Experience working with school-aged children preferred.
• Knowledge of special education laws, procedures, IDEA.
• Ability to evaluate motor skills and functional mobility in educational settings.
• Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and community providers.
• Strong verbal, written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Commitment to inclusive learning environments.

Responsibilities

• Conduct evaluations to determine students' physical therapy needs as part of the multidisciplinary evaluation process.
• Develop recommendations to support students' educational access and participation.
• Provide direct and consultative physical therapy services per IEPs.
• Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to goal development and progress monitoring.
• Collaborate with teachers, administrators, OT, SLP, nurses, physicians, and families to support student success.
• Design and monitor therapy programs to improve mobility, positioning, balance, strength, and participation in school activities.
• Recommend adaptive equipment and assistive technology as appropriate.
• Provide training to school personnel on positioning, transfers, accessibility, and therapy implementation.
