Qualifications

  • Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited institution; Texas license required.
  • Successful completion of school-based pediatric affiliation or equivalent experience.
  • One year of experience in school-based physical therapy preferred.
  • Graduation from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy program.
  • APTA National Physical Therapy Examination completed.
  • Current State of Texas license to practice physical therapy.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out evaluation procedures to determine the need for therapeutic intervention in the school setting.
  • Communicate results of evaluation and recommendations to parents, staff, students, and other professionals as appropriate.
  • Plan and develop educationally relevant therapeutic interventions integrated into the student’s IEP.
  • Provide integrated/direct services agreed to by the Admission, Review, and Dismissal Committee.
  • Reassess therapy objectives as indicated by the student’s IEP.
  • Maintain professional, efficient documentation in accordance with district PT program policy, including SHARS documentation.
  • Provide training to educational staff related to implementation of therapeutic intervention.
  • Monitor and collaborate by teaching and supervising others involved with PT interventions.
  • Monitor inventory and use of assistive technology for therapy.
  • Participate in IDEA B Grant activities and program development as directed.
  • Engage in continuing education and professional growth activities.
  • Attend staff and other meetings as appropriate.
