Job summary

Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES is hiring an Occupational Therapist to evaluate students and develop therapies to maximize independence in daily living and education. You will collaborate with educators, families, and clinics to implement functional programs within the school setting.

The position requires NYSED licensure and current registration, with priority to civil service list candidates.

Qualifications

• Licensed OT with NYSED registration.
• School-based OT program planning experience preferred.
• Knowledge of IEP processes and collaboration with school staff.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate students and plan occupational therapy programs.
• Instruct Occupational Therapy Assistant as needed.
• Instruct students in self-help activities (eating, dressing, grooming, toileting).
• Assist development of visual-motor skills for eye–hand coordination.
• Plan activities for functional, prevocational, vocational, and ADL skills to increase independence.
• Support students to improve functioning in visual, auditory, somatosensory areas relevant to academics.
• Use activities to improve social skills and interpersonal relationships.
• Document progress and maintain appropriate records, including IEP-related documents.
• Participate in educational planning and placement meetings for OT services.
• Serve as liaison with referral sources (medical clinics, community agencies).
• Instruct students, faculty and families on therapy goals.
