Job summary

Hendry County School Board is seeking a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to implement the therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist, in collaboration with school staff and families.

The COTA will promote independence in daily living activities, participate in IEP meetings, and contribute to data collection to track student goals, under supervision and within established procedures.

Qualifications

• Florida licensure as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) required.
• Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
• Ability to make minor decisions with minimal supervision in accordance with procedures.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Promote independence in activities of daily living through problem solving and adaptations.
• Observe, problem solve and suggest positioning techniques to enhance participation and function.
• Consult and assist classroom staff through information-sharing at team meetings.
• Discuss and exchange information about students assigned with the occupational therapist.
• Utilize task analysis to suggest techniques to the educational team for daily living and school skills.
• Implement the individualized/small group therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist.
• Attend and participate in IEP meetings.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information.
• Collaborate with students, parents, and staff to support student needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
